Sorry, I don't have any new information on this. It seems this issue only happened to Samsung A20/A40, so I think you should contact Samsung to get their opinion on what might be happening.

I'm not a BLE-expert but like you said before that you're receiving at -50dBm so I'd say the antenna is working fine. You also mentioned that when you run it on the devkit it is also being received fine, thus there aren't any issues with the Bluetooth-permissions on the phone of that sort.

I'm just speculating here but wouldn't it be possible that the crystal-oscillators are not fully within specs, resulting on some BLE-chipsets not being able to decode your message? Do you have both the 32Mhz and 32Khz crystal on your custom board, or just the 32Mhz one?

Yes I can see it in nRFconnect. And when I run my app on a Nordic dev board I can find it in my app, so it must be an antenna or fine tuning problem (let me remind your that when designing our product my antenna design was approved by Nordic staff). But how come Samsung is developing smart phones with Bluetooth modules that vary so much in quality? Naturally all Apple products work and the higher quality Samsungs like the S10 works perfect with my product, but the A40 and A20 simply doesn't work!

Just wondering if I could fix it with some settings in the softdevice.

Bluetooth is a standard. It should not be allowed to differ from the standard.

Just a disclaimer. I'm not a Nordic employee. I just have similar issues and would like to see this resolved as well. If you go to the android Bluetooth settings and go to "Pair new device". Do you see the device popping up there?

I have read through the ticket and tried to change the clock to the following:

But it doesn't work.

Any other clue to the problem?

What other information do you need besides the information stated in the entire ticket?

nothing of this works. It seriously hurts our sales to customers with Samsung phones. We just had a customer with a Samsung A40 who had to return our product, because it could not connect!!!!

What is the problem?

Hi Jens,

Sorry for the delay.

There is an issue on Android 10, where users have to manually go into app settings and disable and enable location permissions for it to work. You might have to do it a couple of times to get the apps working. This was an issue that popped right after users upgraded their devices to Android 10.

What we believe is that the Android 10 upgrade did not restore the permissions granted to the apps properly. We faced the same issue and the above fix is what we had to do. (As Aleksander Nowakowski's solution)

We think the Samsung model A20e might have the same situation.

There is a bug with the phone. Maybe some issues with the phone not supporting CSA #2 (?) You should make sure that the phone is updated with the latest software updates from Samsung. (https://www.samsung.com/us/support/answer/ANS00077582/)

Try enabling or disabling batching in nRF Connect -> Settings -> Scanner -> Offloaded scan batching. You may also check other Scanning mode, but the default one (Low latency) should work best.

I read RSSI levels of -50dBm. Why would the packets be invalid? they work on all other smartphones like Huawei, Apple iphone, etc.

What is the RSSI at which you're receiving the packets? If the Bluetooth antenna of the Samsung A20 is badly designed or being distorted by the case it is possible that it's just below the threshold at which it can decode the packets.

Can you sniff the advertisement packets? As Aleksander says they might be invalid. You can use your DK as sniffing-tool using: https://www.nordicsemi.com/Software-and-Tools/Development-Tools/nRF-Sniffer-for-Bluetooth-LE

I did have Andreas Bognøy verify my antenna design and also other BLE 5.0 devices can scan my device. Just not the Samsung A20 :( Do you know of any other developers with similar issue?

What are your advertising parameters, specifically the flags set in the advertisingdata?

If you do see other devices, I can imagine only 2 possible reasons:

1. Your device is bonded with the other phone and is advertising directly to it, so the A20 ignores this advertising.

2. Your devices advertises with invalid data, and the A20 is discarding the packet as invalid, but the other phone is simply ignoring it, while still delivering the packet to the app.

You may also check your settings in nRF Connect -> Scanner. Are they all default? Did you enable Offloaded batching, or anything else there?

Are you able to see your device using some other scanner app, like BLE Scanner, etc?

Hi, do you have Location enabled in the Quick Settings on your Samsung phone? If so, try denying and granting again the location permission to nRF Connect in Settings -> Applications.
