koniho Your understanding is correct, I miss read the chart. The GPREGRET registers are not preserved across a watchdog reset. Sorry for the confusion.

I read the chart opposite of how you have read it. For sure Retained Registers are NOT reset for a Soft Reset so there is no 'X' in the cell. For Watchdog Reset, Retained Register are a reset target - which would indicate that they are not preserved.

Yes GPREGRET is retained (preserved) across a watchdog reset. I'm not sure what nRF device you are using but if you look for the Reset behavior section in the Product Spec. you will see a table of Reset source and Reset target. Here is an excerpt from the nRF52840 PS.
