I'm working on a custom board, containing the NRF52840. I am using SDK 15.3.0 and SoftDevice s140 to implement BLE.
Recently I've bought the Power Profiler Kit (PCA63511) in order to measure the current consumption and calculate

RE: BLE - High current peak (40mA)

Hello, is it normal to reach 40MA?
Thanks for the answer, you're right. I did not know that that table existed.

I also thought that the BLE examples or the SoftDevice would automatically enable the DC/DC switching regulator, but this is not the case. So after enabling it with the 'sd_power_dcdc_set()' function, it dropped to around 15mA.

RE: BLE - High current peak (40mA)

Is DC/DC switching regulator off? Tx current at 8dBm is specified a 32.7mA typical, and that is just for the RADIO peripherial. (see PS 1.1 table 60.20.15.2).

For comparison: 4dBm is at 21.4mA, 0dBm is at 10.6mA current.

The 40ish mA is likely the sum of RADIO plus MCU core plus clock tree.
