also, ST is not cheaper, cheaper would be discrete filter (LC). The use of balun make sense imho only in case you need to reduce space.

Giovanni, here on on the product page nrf51822 -> download -> tab "Reference Layout". You need to be registered and need to enter productkey which comes with the Dev/Eval kits. Edit: link to pca10031

Understood, but the ST BALF01D3 is fine according to Nordic. But the hand solder part makes sense if you are still prototyping.

my two cents: Johanson balun one can even solder manually, the ST one -- no way :)

Just out of curiosity, why use the Johansen over the ST balun? I believe the ST balun is cheaper and with smaller footprint.

Hi Giovanni, Any antenna that support 2.4GHz and 50Ohm impedance should work. I would suggest to follow the antenna made for the nRF51 development kits for your design.

You can also have a look at this document for monopole antenna design. Also please don't forget to add the tuning component to tune the antenna. Please have a look at this document.

Hi Giovanni,

please check the nrf51 dongle Reference design, which uses the meander antenna. In your design place a pi-shunt before antenna for tuning.

There is no special antenna for johanson balun, actually any can do if tuned. We used the meander with johanson and st baluns as well (additional cap of 1pF / 1.5 pF was added)
