Thank you Vidar Berg for the information on P20 debugger out usage. I tried it and it works.

The other Jlink-OB might be too old thus I won't spend time on it any more since the nRF52DK can do the job.

I'm not sure if 5.x had device support for the nRF52, but you can try to use it with JLinkExe instead of nrfjprog. It has the same functionality.

Yet another problem I have is regarding the relationship between nrfjprog and JLinkExe. I got an old JLink-OB programmer from friend which seems to support JLinkExe 5.x but not JLinkExe 6.x. How can I use that programmer with nrfjprog tool? I found even if the oldest available nrf command line tools (v9.7) contains JLinkExe 6.2 ... does this mean that there is no way to use that old programmer?

Hi,

You need to connect GND so you get common ground between the boards. Then you can supply the breakout from VDD on the DK, so VDD -> VCC and GND->GND. And on the P20 header you can connect VTG to VDD to enable programming from P20.
