Yep - downgrading to JLink 6.54c fixed it, thanks!

To answer your questions:

cmd+r: the Programmer app goes back to it's initial state, where it is waiting for me to select a device

What happens if you press cmd+r?

What version of nRF Connect do you use?

From the release notes of nRF Connect v3.3.0, it uses JLink 6.54c. Could you try to downgrade, and see if that solves your problem?
