 But to my surprise the only free supported IDE is Segger and there is no clear step-by-step guide how to configure it for using with nRF libraries

&lt;p&gt;We did not start supporting the Segger IDE until the nRF52 series, which is why there aren&amp;#39;t any SES examples provided for the nRF51. As for IDEs that do have examples supporting the nRF51, you can use the free Keil µvision IDE, IAR, or the GCC compiler.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;You can also import Keil µVision projects to SES by following &lt;a href="https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/nordic/nordic-blog/b/blog/posts/segger-embedded-studio-a-cross-platform-ide"&gt;this guide&lt;/a&gt; if you want to develop for the nRF51 in SES as well.&lt;/p&gt;
