The nRF52 DK PCA10040 has a nRF52832 chip not a nRF52840. Exactly what example are you flashing the board with?

Then I would strongly suggest that you spend some time to get familiar with 'C' on a PC - before you add all the complications of embedded microcontrollers & the Nordic SDK, etc.

There is really nothing special about "embedded" 'C'

this id the adruino code I wrote to send "1" as a input to the usb of my windows machine. I got recognized properly. But i case of nordic I am not able to generate that. I am a newbie to embedded C. I am referring UART example

That's not how you define a string in 'C' !

The single & double quotes have quite different meanings in 'C' !

See your 'C' textbook.

That's not valid 'C' at all: there is a spurious single quote there - so that wouldn't even compile.
