I would try with a USB phone charger, yes, if you have one available.

The iMac might not power up the port if it doesn't enumerate as a USB device.

I used a standard cable connected to a usb port on an iMac.

Should I connect the USB cable to a standard USB-point on a power outlet?

What did you use to charge it?

A regular phone charger, or something else?
Do you have more than one charger to try?

Could you try to measure the VDD voltage on the Thingy with a multimeter?

If you remove the rubber cover you can access GND and VDD on the P4, P6 or P8 headers.

Hi,

So I tried holding the button down while starting the unit. There is no yellow pusling light present. The only difference is that the red light flash is delayed by a second or two when holding the button.

The light should start pulsing yellow when in DFU (bootloader) mode.

The key is to keep the button down at the moment you turn it on.

Hi, I have never updated the firmware.

I see the same behaviour when turning it on while charging and when its not connected.

I will try holding the button pressed while switching it on later today and report back. Is there anything I should be looking for when doing so? Will the light start breathing or stay on?

Have you ever changed the firmware in the Thingy, either by using the DFU mechanism or by connecting a programmer to the 10-pin J-Link port?

Will it work if you turn it on while it's charging over USB, or does it behave the same in this case?

Could you try to turn it on while keeping the button pressed to see if the bootloader is still available?
