Samsung phone doesn't allow some beacons

Hello all,

I am running "ble_app_beacon" example code in nrf52832. when i'm using samsung and honor mobile phones the nrf Connect application is not showing the beacon, but in other phones the application is showing the beacon. I can't understand what is happening in samsung mobile please solve my problem so that the beacon in shown in all mobile phones.

  • Hi

Can you try to disable and enable the location permissions that nRFConnect requests in the settings on the phones you're having trouble with? If this does not help, please tell me if you have made any changes to the ble_app_beacon example at all. What exact phones are not able to detect the beacon the nRFConnect app?

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • Thanks for replay Simonr,

I am facing this problem in samsung(all models) mobile. We have designed our customized ble board(NRF52832), in which I have enabled LF Clock source selection for low power application, it's working and is shown in all mobile phones like redmi, moto etc.Only while using samsung and honor mobiles, we are facing this kind of problem , the beacon is not shown in nrf connect.Suppose say we have 10 beacons, these beacons are shown in nrf connect app in other mobiles, but in samsung mobile only 5 beacons are shown, the other 5 are not shown.

  • Can you mention some of the Samsung models you have so that I might try to recreate this on my end? I haven't seen this issue before so it's hard to say what's wrong without more details. Are you always seeing a maximum of 5 beacons in the nRFConnect app on Samsung/Honor, so if you have 6 you'll still see 5 of them? Have you made any other changes to the ble_app_beacon example than changing the LF clock source? Do all the beacons have the same name for example?

    Best regards,

    Simon

  • The mobile model is Samsung galaxy M20 and M30. And no, if I have 6 beacons, there is no surety that I can see 5 beacons, it varies. Other than changing the clock source I have not made any changes. All the beacons have same name, I am differentiating with MAC address of the beacon.

  • Thank you for the information. While I ask around and try to get my hands on one of these Samsung phones, please confirm that you tried to disable and enable the location permissions for the nRFConnect app. Is it always the same devices that you can't find using the Samsung phones, or is this random as well? Have you ever been able to discover more than 5 beacons?

    Best regards,

    Simon

EDIT: I'm having some trouble finding these exact phones, so if you could mention more phones with this problem, please do!

EDIT 2: What Android version is on the phones you're having trouble with?
