I could not find NET_ROUTE_ and NET_CONN. But I set all the others. Set "Optimize for size"

Here is the terminal log. It seems like the LTE won't connect with those settings

I found the LOG_ entries. However, for some reason I am getting the following error

LTE Link Connected!

And last night the device connected several times right before I stopped working. So I have a different problem I need to fix before I can test your suggestions.

If you search for "LOG_" in menuconfig, they should turn up.

Regarding the json file: It looks like you are missing a comma after "size": 232128,

Try to add this, and see if it still reports it as an invalid file.

I don't see where I set or select those in menuconfig

Also did you see my screen shots about trying the json file as you had suggested?

Can you please try to enable some debug logging on some of the modules from your menuconfig, and then let me know what the log says when optimization isn't enabled:

I uploaded the Json job file into the same bucket as the image

then I created a new job

and I keep defaults on this page

When press create I get the following

which matches the format of the example given in

Optimization is not actually causing any problems. I believe that the compiler sees that it doesn't actually need to push this variable to the stack, but pushes it right to the register that it is being used, which is why you don't see it while debugging.

I see that it is a bit confusing since you are asked to log in twice (step 7 and 12), but you should be able to store it in the same S3 bucket. This is only a file management system, so for the example, it shouldn't require you to use another S3 bucket.

One additional question since it relates to the reason for this support thread in the first place. I am now trying to get the AWS FOTA sample to work. If you look at the instructions in the following link:

You will see that in step 13 it mentions uploading the json format file created in step 11. Is the json format file to be uploaded to the same S3 bucket as the app_update.bin file or if it is to be uploaded into a new S3 bucket?

I specifically selected MenuConfig and did not select mcubott_menuconfig or spm_menuconfig. I just tested again as you suggested. And with optimization set to debug (which I had set before but maybe it did not save) I get the same result as you are

So it them becomes a concern that optimization is preventing a constant into memory. I will be working at 12:00 Norway / 05:00 Nashville time if you can find an answer as to why the optimization is causing a problem. We need optimization working for production code. But for the time being I can get some work done.

Hello. I just tested the aws_fota example, and initially (without any modifications) I saw the same behavior as you did. What project settings is the screenshot in your original post from? Menuconfig, mcuboot_menuconfig or spm_menuconfig?

I tried to set Menuconfig -> ticked of Optimize debugging experience -> pressed Configure:

And then I can see the hostname pointer:

Are you sure you selected menuconfig? And that you have not saved the project settings? Please check whether that option is still set.

I also can use the simple MQTT Sample and change the desired broker (using nrfConnect Settings) to mqtt.dashboard.mqtt.com and publish messages

I should also point out that the reason that I am looking at the hostname in the AWS FOTA sample is because the connection is not being made in the terminal window.

Also when I run the simple_mqtt sample the hostname (node in this case) is displayable in the debug window.

I set the optimization level to optimize for debug

then reran the program and I get the same result

It may be caused by optimization by your compiler. Can you please try to disable the optimization and see if the variable's content is displayed?

It also shows up in a search through the obj file for main and the elf files

So it looks like it is generated by the nrfConnect settings process followed by a build

I hit same breakpoint then did a debug "step-over" with still the same result

The hostname is set in the calling function

With the define CONFIG_MQTT_BROKER_HOSTNAME

which is set to mqtt.eclipse.org

When you have stopped on line 385 in Segger Embeddes Studio, this line has not yet been executed. Try to set the breakpoint on the next line, and then check the hostname pointer in watch.
