1. Pair lightbulb 1 with coordinator (it works)
2. Pair lightbulb 2 which is out of reach of coordinator

RE: Zigbee not meshing

Hello,

I saw your new ticket. I asked my colleague who is working closer with our Zigbee stack, and he is the one that replied in your latest ticket.

Perhaps you can tell me:

What sort of devices are running on nRF52840 DKs, and what devices are nordic devices?

Coordinator: ?

Bulb1: ?

Bulb2: ?

Does bulb 1 and bulb 2 support children?

Can you please provide a sniffer trace? Do you have any spare nordic device? An nRF52840 dongle? An nRf52840 DK? If so, you can use this as a sniffer. If you are not sure how to do this, please let me know.

I know the difference between mesh topology and star topology, so that is not the misunderstanding here. But the Mesh stack is a full mesh stack, supporting this feature that you claim doesn't work. I do believe you, but in order to figure out why it doesn't work we need to have some more information. Please state what 3rd party devices you use, which ones that are nordic devices, and provide a sniffer trace.

Best regards,

Are you sure that light bulb 1 has been promoted to a Zigbee router? Perhaps it is still a zigbee end device when you try to commission the second light bulb?

Have you tried this with all Nordic devices? I am sorry, but it isn't easy to tell whats going on unless we either have a sniffer trace or that we know what FW is running on all the devices, i.e. their capabilities.

RE: Zigbee not meshing

Looking at this file 'zb_mem_config_common.h' I see that in line 130 it says:

/* Let's have enough space to have the entire network in neighbors - Star topology */

A star topology on zigbee is where all the ZR and ZED are connected to one ZC directly, is this SDK able to work on a Mesh topology? Can you ask the Zigbee team if the SDK is able to do this?

Take a look ath this picture: zigbee network topology

RE: Zigbee not meshing

Are all the devices the examples from our SDK? Or do you have external devices? It is really hard to say why it isn't working without a sniffer trace. There are 3rd party sniffers on the market as well. I don't know whether HA1.2 and zigbee 3.0 is a clash, but I will have to forward the sniffer trace to our zigbee team in order to say for sure.

Is there anything else I can try? Smartthings uses HA 1.2 and nrf uses zigbee 3.0, is there any adjustments to make this work?, I mean the can directly pair to the hub bot not on a star mesh, which is the main advantage of using zigbee.

RE: Zigbee not meshing

Hello,

Sorry for the late reply.

Can you please try to capture a sniffer trace of the issue you are seeing? If you place a sniffer near the lightbulb 1 it should be able to pick up the packets from all the nodes. You can use the 802.15.4 sniffer from infocenter.

Can you capture a sniffer trace from both the scenarios? Both when lightbulb 2 is in range with the coordinator and when it is not? And please remember to have the sniffer close to lightbulb 1 so that it picks up all the packets.

Best regards,

What do you mean you don't know if this is possible, isn't it the point of a mesh network no be able to repeat messages through out the mesh?

RE: Zigbee not meshing

Hello,
