For reasons not clear, the nRF programmer now recognises my JLINK programmer so I have been able to install the sniffer software to the nRF52, which was the issue, and all is now working. This also cures my programming problems. Thank you for your rapid response.

Unfortunately I do not know why the programmer is now recognised to offer an answer to others.

Hi,

Please follow the Installing nRF Sniffer instructions and help to check the following things for sniffer 3.0.0:

What is your OS?
What are the Python and Wireshark version now? Please see the requirement on Installing nRF Sniffer
Programming the nRF Sniffer firmware with sniffer_pca10040_129d2b3.hex for nRF52 Development Kit (PCA10040).
1. Please check with nRFConnect/Programmer, it should look like this:
Can you provide the screenshot of the window again after type nrf_sniffer_ble.bat --extcap-interfaces. On macOS or Linux, type nrf_sniffer_ble.sh --extcap-interfaces? (Step 3b of Programming the nRF Sniffer firmware)?
After Adding a Wireshark profile for nRF Sniffer, I refreshed the interface from Capture again. It showed up the "nRF Sniffer for Bluetooth LE COM#" in this stage.
Please turn on nRF52DK while refreshing the interface.
