It was never fixed, I received no support, and eventually removed the Nordic part from the board and used a completely different solution that worked as described.

I would like to mention that for new development we recommend using the nRF Connect SDK, which is difference from this case. Please check out the Developer Academy to get started with nRF Connect SDK and the zephyr RTOS:

I assume you have configured both WS and CLK as input for I2S and that the PWM output pins that generate these two signals are connected both to the mic and the WS and CLK input pins.
