Yes, see this post. Note that the HFCLK and UART peripheral will be running all the time in CLI, meaning you will not get very low current consumption.

These CLI commands should work for SED:

> panid 0xabcd
Done
> ifconfig up
Done
> thread start
Done
> mode n
Done
> pollperiod 1000
Done

This gives me the following current consumption:

No, you only need to set the PANID the first time and bring up the interfaces after each reset. The example is pre-commissioned.

Will all the nodes be FTD/router devices, or will some be (Sleepy-)End-Devices only?

Not all , just want to know if it is possible

If a node get reset in cli , when it start again , it need to scan and have to get commissioned again to rejoin the mesh again right , in hand shaking mode

Hi,

The MQTT-SN examples are described in the example documentation. Most examples are not supported on PCA10059 as the Dongle does not come with any debugging-capabilities, making it hard to use for development. I would recommend you to get some nRF52840 DKs (PCA10056) to use for testing and development.

Which example you should start with depends on what your application is trying to accomplish:

What kind of data will be exchanged between the 30 nodes?
Will all the nodes be FTD/router devices, or will some be (Sleepy-)End-Devices only?
Are you planning to send data to the internet/cloud services?

All examples (except MeshCoP example) are pre-commissioned with default master-key. You can change this to fit your application. CLI example requires you to set PANID and bring up the interfaces/stacks after each boot, but the default master-key is stored and can be used as a pre-commissioned device.

Hi,

For the CLI example you will need to configure the node again, this is just part on how the example has been created for easier debugging so you can use it to develop your own applications. But in all other examples the devices are pre-commissioned, which means the network data is stored in flash and the node will rejoin automatically after a reset.

One more doubt, if a node gets reset or disconnected , due to power failure, dose it need to get configured again to join the mesh or it will connect to mesh by itself later when switched on ??

Hi,

Yes, there should not be any problem having 30 thread devices on a network.

The practical maximum number of devices on a Thread network will depend on many things, like how much data and how often you want to send data, and how the nodes are connected to each other, so it's impossible to know the maximum number of nodes in a network, but we have had customers with solutions with around 1500 nodes in use at any time e.g: https://blog.nordicsemi.com/getconnected/thread-connected-hangers-in-a-parisian-boutique

The default max children in the nRF Thread & Zigbee SDK is set to 32, but you can recompile the OpenThread stack and change this if you want to experiment with more than 1056 devices.

Theoretically 1 leader , 32 router and 511 per router , I am yet to implement practical, got delayed due to corona , can 30 modules be interconnected in nrf52840
