Yes I am sending the same AT commands as your program.

I have managed to send the SMS AT commands in MQTT sample program using at_cmd_write function.

I don't have too much experience with this, but here is a sample I've used earlier to send SMS:

Are you able to integrate that into the mqtt_simple example?

If not please tell me and I'll try to investigate further and see if I can make it work
