They are in the mobile app - not the embedded MCU code!

Nordic don't publish the source of the nRF Connect app, but they do have some other examples on Github.

But mobile app development is really beyond the scope of this forum

In order to log information, you should use NRF_LOG_INFO. This is also what's used in the custom BLE tutorial, but the exact string "notification received from...." is not printed by the application in this example, so I can't tell you where that is done. Please check out the logger module in the SDK for more information on how to use NRF_LOG_INFO.
