Thanks for replaying, Kenneth!

I did as you suggested. As I unplugged the SDA line from the sensor and run the example, the activity was there.

It turned out I was missing external pull up resistors on the SDA and SCL lines.

Have you tried running the \examples\peripheral\twi_scanner\ example 'as-is' on an nRF52-DK with no sensor attached? Then you should see activity on the ARDUINO_SCL_PIN (27) and ARDUINO_SDA_PIN (26) by default.
