If I upgrade to the latest rev3 chip, can I just flash it and everything will still work as before?
From the compatibility matrix pdf, it looks like s110

RE: nRF51822 revisions backwards compatible with older soft devices?

Hi

As at least an introduction to an answer, take a look at this thread

RE: nRF51822 revisions backwards compatible with older soft devices?

Hi Chris, this is an excellent question, and one for which I'm looking forward to hearing the official answer! We too have a product in production with S110 5.2.1. The compatibility matrix PDF suggests that the older silicon is not compatibile with the newest softdevices, and the newest silicon is not compatible with the oldest softdevices. (If true, that's ridiculous and will lead to lots of problems for lots of customers down the road -- no semi maker in their right mind would do that to their customers.) My guess is that Nordic just needs to update the compatibility matrix PDF to indicate that S110 5.2.1 will continue to be supported by newer silicon.
