&lt;p&gt;CONFIG_BOARD_NRF9160DK_UART0_ARDUINO=y&lt;br /&gt;CONFIG_BOARD_NRF9160DK_UART0_VCOM=n&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;and built for the&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Now R69 has been pulled up---FINALLY.&amp;nbsp; &amp;nbsp;I just tested and I can now access the modem using P0.29, P0.28 external pins.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;So I seem to have answered my own question...&lt;/p&gt;
