It could be that the application you flashed sets this https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/index.jsp?topic=%2Fref_at_commands%2FREF%2Fat_commands%2Fmob_termination_ctrl_status%2Fxproddone_set.html&cp=2_1_4_27_0
in the application.

Could you try another jlink or another computer to see if the issue can be there?

how to know if my device's protection is enabled? These boards were pre-loaded with hex file, I just re-flash them to view public and private key.

Well the thing is, initially I flashed the unit without issues. I update the modem then flashed the unit.

But when I tried to re-flash it again I get error during updating the modem again. I cannot proceed to flashing hex.

When I bypass the update modem and flash hex directly it wont work either. Even with erase all first.

This issue only happens when you try to update the modem firmware?

Or does it happen when flashing the Application itself?

Are you following the steps mention in this Application Note

Yes. Even there's no RTT viewer I still get the error.

I tried on the different project from other customer using nRF9160 and it works just fine.

The RTT Viewer was required by our customer to verify the public and private key.

The steps I did were below.

1) Open RTT Viewer and verifiy the device is connected.

2) Open nRF Programmer, at first i did not perform erase all command, just straight to update modem

and flash hex. I did it for the 15 samples or so and it worked. Then after some time the error came out.

***by the way, before this issue I flashed all 20 units with no problem. Then the customer required to view the log file for public and private key that is why I needed the RTT Viewer and reflash the units again*** Is it possible that the nRF9160 was corrupted or some sort?

Could you share the full log from the programmer app: after running the modem update ?

Also please shut all other serial terminal e.g. like RTT Viewer, so that the Jlink is only used when using the programmer app.

Do you have any idea what may have happened between the flashing the ones that worked vs. the ones that does not work?

I'm using external J-Link.

What I did is I use RTT viewer to check log report.

Then open nRF programmer to erase all -> update modem -> flash hex, but I'm just until erase all...

Are you using the Debug_out on a nrf91DK to flash the custom board or an external Jlink?
Whats the nrfjprog version you are using?
open cmd and type 'nrfjprog -v'

Hi Black_ice,

Which device are you trying to update?

If it is the Thingy:91, please try to do it with the .zip file inside: https://www.nordicsemi.com/Software-and-tools/Prototyping-platforms/Nordic-Thingy-91/Download#infotabs
("mfwnrf9160120.zip")

Also remember to put the device in DFU mode by holding in the button down when turning the Thngy:91 on.
