From my understanding it has one antenna which provide CTE or IQ samples that can be used for AoA and AoD calculation. How is it possible with one antenna.

RE: nRF52833 direction finding

Hi again

As I mentioned, you will need an additional antenna array so that the nRF52833 can use antenna switching in order to transmit (or receive, depending on whether you're using AoA or AoD) to/from the different antennas which will make it possible to calculate the angle of arrival/departure. This is mentioned in the whitepaper I linked to, so please take a look at that for more information.

Best regards,

Based on this, collecting CTE and IQ samples from both Chips and further analysing this data for direction finding ? how do you see this Approach ?

The CTE and IQ sampling features are described in the nRF52833 product specification on how CTE and IQ sampling is done. You will need to use an antenna array for direction finding, so this will need to be taken into consideration when designing a board. You can also check out our blogs on direction-finding and the Direction Finding whitepaper on the infocenter for more details on Direction-finding in general.

We have not released any HW for a direction-finding antenna array as of yet, and you will have to contact the regional sales manager (RSM) of your area for a roadmap of when this and/or a software solution can be expected. If you don't have their contact information please fill out our Sales Related Questions form here to get in touch.

Best regards,
