Are you familiar with firmware development in 'C' for any other microcontroller(s) ?

I would strongly suggest that you get the official Nordic nRF52840 Dev Kit:

This comes ready-to-go, and the Nordic SDK examples, tutorials, etc, are written specifically for this board.

So get the Dev Kit, and use that to gain the basic familiarity with the product and the tools. Once you have that familiarity, you will be in a position to know how to move on to a 3rd-party board.
