You can get the RSSI value on the phone, then trigger an alert on the nRF8001 from the phone app when applicable using the immediate alert characteristic.

It is referring to the Bluetooth defined Proximity profile.

Thanks for your reply. I don't get why the template is called "proximity", then. To me proximity means somehow dealing with distance. If there is no RSSI or other measure of distance, where is the proximity in this template?

So have you tried the different examples in the nRF8001 Arduino SDK? What do you wish to do?
