We are migrating our designs to nRF52820. With previous IC we saw that Johanson has IPD for atenna filter + matching circuit (e.g.2450FM07A0029), but not for the nRF52820. Do you have any known IPD that works well with nRF52820?

RE: nRF52820 IPD

Hi,

If you are able to provide good grounding of the IC, meaning more or less solid ground in the bottom layer, 0dBm or -4dBm should be fine. This might not be easy though as the power routing will likely break this up quite a bit if you want to use most of the GPIOs

Thanks for the fast response.

Regarding the 8dBm radio, is a bad idea even at 0dBm or -4 dBm Tx power? (we don't use more than 0 dBm).

Thanks in advance.

RE: nRF52820 IPD

Hi,

2450FM07A0029T is for nRF52832/nRF52810/nRF52811. 2450FM07A0037T is for nRF52840 and nRF52833. I am not sure whether this has been tested yet, but as the radio, package and maching is similar I would not expect large differences.

2-layer PCBs with our 8dBm radios is generally a bad idea. Due to the poor grounding of the IC in such boards you might see issues with excessive TX harmonics and modulation characteristics. I would not recommend it, especially with the integrated filter as you then have no components to fine-tune if you see bad spurious rejection.

Best regards,

Andreas
