my collegue had the same problem like you had and he just confirmed that re-installing the firmware helped him. After installing the firmware you try to connect to the chip using JLink or nrfjprog and the installer will force update the firmware on OB chip. hopefully this will help you.

your steps to download the firmware seems to be OK, can you try re-installing the tool www.segger.com/jlink-software.html. This helped me once to detect anamoly on Segger chip and it reflashed onboard firware automatically.

Hi Aryan,

My problem is with bricked on board J-Link not the on board nrf SoC. I was asking about the procedure for unbricking the on board J-Link. If the SoC on board got bricked i think we can some how manage to un brick it using the on board J-Link.(assumingzOB J-Link is working)

The question is about unbricking the on board J-Link! I was trying to un-brick the bricked OB J-Link available on nRF51 DK board using an external J-Link module, I'm not talking about the nrf51422 SoC!. Can you verify the procedure i followed for unbricking the onboard J-Link

FYI: I was able to program the on board nrf51422 SoC using the external J-Link EDU via P18 DEBUG_IN port. No issues with on board nrf SoC.

Your JLink uses Cortex M3 and it seems to be assesible, your nRF chip is cortex M0 and this is what it seems bricked. use nrfjporg download latest SDK developer.nordicsemi.com/.../ uzip it and install nRF_mdk_7_2_1.msi then from command prompt, say nrfjprog --recover. If this does not work then your device is bricked for good.

Hi Aryan, It took a while for us to get the J-Link EDU. Tried connecting the nRF51 DK board to external J-Link EDU via J3 on board, erased and flashed the firmware 'J-Link OB-SAM3U128-V2-NordicSemi_150311.bin'. Flashing process seems successful, but after resetting, still the nRF51 DK OB J-Link is not getting detected! Flashing procedure followed: http://pastebin.com/y8JQeQqC Can you check the above procedure and tell me if any thing went wrong! If possible can you provide the steps/references for re-flashing the firmware to un-brick the nRF51 DK OB J-Link using external J-Link EDU. Please let me know if you need any info from my side.

Hi Bhuvanchandra, try to connect the board with another PC for testing Also check if this helps. If both the nrfjprog and jlink.exe fail to execute then i think you have bricked your device and it is difficult to bring it up unless you use external jlink module and connect it to SWDIO pin and send the reset sequence manually

I believe that there is an issue with J-Link OB, until and unless the board gets detected on USB bus, we cannot do anything(flashing)! Can you please help us to solve the issue with the seeger J-Link OB

nrfjprog is a nordic tool and you should be able to download in in the nordic product page. Seems like Jlink.exe managed to do what it is needed to erase the whole flash. Can you just reset your device and see if that worked, else nrfjprog is the only possible savior.

I was expecting a device shown in lsusb or in the device manager. The nrf51 dk board was not at all getting detected as USB device. To use the JLink* tools i think we will need the device to be detected on USB first!

I think you flashed the wrong bootloader, try to recover your device using

nrfjprog --recover option

or Run JLink Commander ( JLink.exe ) and in it's command window give following commands; si 1 r h w4 4001e504 2 w4 4001e50C 1 w4 4001e514 1 r That reset's whole flash
