the installation of nrfutils as per nordic infocenter
is failing. Not sure if the first step worked (claims it did but with some error messages):

Next step definitely failed:

So since this python stuff is not working here my question

RE: nrfutil installation failing

Hi,

so the 5.2.0 install doesn't seem to work either.

I have no idea what is happening and since that python stuff is an absolute no-go area for us I am going home now and do something constructive (fixing the roof of my shed) instead of wasting my time here.

I did not read your post earlier using the 5.2.0 version which most likely would have worked; thank you for that.

Now installing python3 broke everything. pip is not working any longer and stopping with an error message and to solve that internet research suggest to remove python-setuptools and reinstall them. Unfortunately removing that also removes a lot of essential OS resources and application software. So basically my computer is screwed... Thanks nordic for this python crap...

Also, you can get python 3 on RHEL7.

well, it seems I will have to spent time because nordic is not giving me any tools that work, do they?

So the links you sent me above DO NOT contain ANY documentation about the file contents and format. You surely do not expect me to reverse engineer this from your tools (written in python, yucc)?

Do you have no documentation about file formats you created yourself? Btw, what is wrong with a good old simple intel hex file or motorola s-record?

If you want to spend time to generate the update image yourself, then you need to generate and sign the init packet, and pack that together with the binary image(s) and manifest file. There is some documentation about that here (though it assumes you just want to modify the existing nrfutil implementation), and you should refer to <SDK>\components\libraries\bootloader\dfu\dfu-cc.proto. You can also refer to to DFU protocol for a general understanding. You can refer to the nrfutil implementation for more details.

RE: nrfutil installation failing

Hi Einar,

no, the version above is the newest version available for our operating system (RHEL7). python 3 is no option.

I do not need other tools I need a description of the file / archive format.

Btw: what were you thinking in nordic writing (as it seems essential) tools in an archaic scripting language where that dutch guy reinvented the wheel for the 100th time and needed 3.9 versions so far and still counting?
