I have downloaded the Zephyr project and working on the LwM2M sample client application to make nRF52840 DK as an LwM2M client. I have followed the below link and able to compile the LwM2M client sample for nRF52840 and flash as well.

I am working at the same project, though it han been a long time for you.

Firstly,I am doing the same thing that you had done, but there is something diffirent.I also using the nrf52840DK 、 the OpenThread and the Leshan server. My device is able to connect the Leshan demon server, the application is not using the QEMU.The zephyrproject sample lwm2m-client has the support for the OpenThread ,follow this https://docs.zephyrproject.org/latest/samples/net/lwm2m_client/README.html#building-and-running go to the OpenThread support, you will know how to built and flash your application, but notice two things:1.the prj.conf and overlay-ot.conf,you should config the ipv6 addr of the Leshan server in this two files. 2.Makesure your client-device can get an ipv6 address which is assigned by your OpenThread border router.

And I noticed that you are finding the OTA process on nRF52840 via OpenThread,I am working on it now,I am using the LwM2M-client and the Leshan which I'm mentioned above. There is some info https://docs.foundries.io/45/tutorial/basic-system.html It is not working correctly, but I'm still working on it.

Well, it’s been a long time, but hopefully it’ll help.

If you are referring to the LwM2M Client application in nRF Connect SDK, this is only supported on nRF9160. The LwM2M Client in Zephyr supports OpenThread transport, and can be run on nRF52840, but this is so recently added to Zephyr that it is not included in the current Zephyr version integrated with nRF Connect SDK. Since this is developed by Zephyr, you need to contact the Zephyr community regarding support for this sample.
2) I am able to connect the client to the border router using OT commands, so If I want to create a server-client environment, which client app should I use to use for the same?
By connect, I assume you mean they are part of the same Thread network? The border router provides the Thread network with internet connectivity. The server can run anywhere, as long as you have the correct connectivity to the border router (IPv4, IPv6).
3) Does any client application support the ARM Pelion server?
Unfortunately, I'm not aware of any client applications with support for ARM Pelion server in nRF Connect SDK yet.

RE: LwM2M client does not connect with Leshan demo server on nRF52840 DK

Hi Edvin,

Sorry for the delayed response.

I don't know whether my border router is connected with the Leshan demo server or not, but it is connected with the internet and the client should send and retrieve the data from the server if it requests.

Also, I have started exploring nRF connect SDK too which uses the zephyr implementation, and tested the Openthread CLI and NCP apps as well.

Can you please help me with my below queries on nRF connect SDK:

1) Is there anything I can use the LwM2M client application for nRF52840?

2) I am able to connect the client to the border router using OT commands, so If I want to create a server-client environment, which client app should I use to use for the same?

3) Does any client application support the ARM Pelion server?

Thanks,

Is your Border Router communicating with your Leshan demo server? Is your nRF52840 communicating with the Border router?

RE: LwM2M client does not connect with Leshan demo server on nRF52840 DK

Hi Edvin,

First, I have flashed the LwM2M client example on my nRF52840 DK and then connected to the border router using the OT commands, this is how I connect the Openthread to the internet. I have already tested with nRF5 SDK's examples with the same setup so assuming this will also work in the same manner.

QEMU is just an emulator if you don't have a device or don't want to test with it.

I am using the bare Zephyr project, have not tried with the nRF Connect SDK yet.

Please check the below details for more information on how exactly I am testing.

Environment Setup:

1) With QEMU:

A Leshan demo server is running on a local machine and on the same machine QEMU is running with the LwM2M client sample app. The QEMU is communicating with the server using sockets. This is working as expected.

2) With nRF52840:

The nRF52840 is flashed with the LwM2M client sample app and connected to the same machine where the Leshan demo server is running. The border router is connected to another machine. The nRF52840 is connected with the border router via Openthread.

Let me know what I am missing here. Should I connect the border router too to the same machine where the server is running?

Thanks and BR,

What do you use to communicate between your openthread network and the internet?
If the same sample runs for QEMU then it should run for the nRF52840 as well.
Maybe? What is a QEMU?
I did not find the same UDP and CoAP APIs in the Zephyr project.
Do you use the "bare" Zephyr project, or do you refer to the nRF Connect SDK?

Currently the openthread support is a bit limited in the nRF Connect SDK, but that is something we are working on.
