The real issue was that I was using wireshark 1.99 (beta) instead of the latest stable release. I uninstalled the beta, installed the latest stable, and then using "w" to launch wireshark worked perfectly.

This helped expose the real issue: wireshark 1.99 beta is not supported by the sniffer executable.

@ shibshab your suggestion was excellent, as that caused me to get past the issue, and show me the real issue. the real issue was that I was using wireshark 1.99 (beta) instead of the latest stable release. I uninstalled the beta, installed the latest stable, and then using "w" to launch wireshark worked perfectly. Thanks for the help!

Try to copy the appropriate Wireshark plugins from the Sniffer install location to you Wireshark\plugins\version folder manually.

The application should then recognize this and not run the plugins script.
