The examples don't send 1 character at a time - they "collect" characters until a CR (or LF?) is received, then send the entire collected string at once.

No, you won't see that the character is received specifically, but when you write one character in one terminal, then you should see the same character appear in the receiving terminal.

Hi , apolgies for the late reply , but my only question if I send a character from one terminal will it be seen as a received from the other terminal ?

Yes, the Nordic UART service is able transmit data both ways, both from central to peripheral, and peripheral to central. Whatever you write in one terminal should be transmitted over BLE to the other terminal.

for the client is it possible to do a uart function to transmit certain characters over ble back to the peripheral?

I don't understand the question I'm afraid.

The ble_app_uart examples write data received over BLE to the connected computer over UART, so in order to have some kind of visual confirmation you can use a terminal to open the COM port and see the received data here. This is also described how to do in the setup on Infocenter.

HI , i took another approch where I used the ble_app_uart and I modified that and I am currently getting sensor data on the nordic uart app. 🙂

my next step is to connect two nordic devkits (nrf52dk) where instead the data is sent to the app it is set to the other nrf52dk any suggestions on how to do this please??

Is it the Dongle or Development Kit that you can't see in the nRFConnect app any longer? Do you still see the Development Kit in your Device Manager as a JLink CDC UART Port? If not, have you maybe held down the reset button while powering it on at some point, putting it into the bootloader mode by mistake? If that's the case, please try reinstalling the Interface MCU firmware. It can be downloaded here, and you can see how to reinstall/update it properly on this page in the Infocenter. If it's the Dongle you can't find, please check out the Dongle Programming tutorial to see how you can recover it.

Or, are you referring to that you can't find the device as an advertising device any more when scanning with a central? If so, the advertising initialization or start is not implemented correctly most likely, and you should take another look at the advertising_init() and advertising_start() functions in your project.

i went through all the steps and in the last step it seems that my development board is no longer being found on the nrfconnect app, i checked and I'm sure i followed them steps well

As Simonr said, the Nordic UART Service (NUS) should be fine for that.

Like a real hardware UART, it is just a "pipe" for transferring any arbitrary data; that's why it's called the "UART Service" - not because it has any particular relation to the hardware UART:

Thank you for specifying your predicament.

AFAIK, there are no BLE services for IMU sensors, but it should not be too difficult to make a custom service that transfers IMU data for you. I found this guide at hackster.io where they explain how to set up a BLE service that transmits IMU data. If you follow our Custom Service Tutorial, available here on GitHub, and creates a similar BLE service from there, you should be able to transmit that to a central device that you have connected to your computer.

The easiest way to get this data onto your computer, I think would be to use the nRFConnect Bluetooth Low Energy app where you get a GUI of the nRF52 DK as a central that can scan and connect to peripheral devices. That way, the only coding necessary would be the implementation of the custom BLE service.

Hi , i am using the IMU sensor BMI085 and i have just developed its spi interface. and I basically want to get the data output from this sensor (from spi) and send it via Bluetooth to another nrf52 which will be connected to my PC.

i have looked at the tutorials but I'm still finding it very very difficult to understands as there's a lot of information at once. is it possible to have a little bit more guidance and from where to start coding pl s

I think you should look at our ble_app_uart example for instance which takes serial data from UART on either the peripheral or central and transmits it over BLE using the Nordic UART Service (NUS). ble_app_uart_c example for instance is a central that communicates with the COM port on connected computer and prints the received data into a terminal on the computer for instance.

Depending on the kind of sensor you are planning on using we might already have an example for that kind of sensor data already (heart rate, thermometer, blood pressure, etc.) in our BLE central and peripheral examples.

As you're new to the Nordic development scene I would also suggest taking a look at our getting started with BLE guide(s) here on the DevZone as well.
