Ok I am convinced to buy a PPK2 now. But can you let me know if PPK3 is in pipeline to launch anytime soon? and is PPK2 still a good buy now?

The source code is for the PC app. The FW files are hex files only, not source code. These are NOT enough to make a new PPK2 as there are features not part of this FW that are needed to make a PPK2. This information is also unique for each device so you need to run a full calibration run with specific test equipment to make it work.

Long explanation for no, it is not possible to build a PPK2 clone at home..

No, the PPK2 FW is Nordic closed source. It will not be possible to make copies as there is a lot of testing for calibration of each device required as well.

Is there any information on this yet? I was looking to fabricate and assemble the PPK2 board and load the FW. I understand the HW is opensource, is the FW is aswell?

I was thinking for the PPK2 nrf firmware itself.

Wanted to understand how these are calibrated and possibly tweak some things for other use-cases.

Are you looking for source code to the HW or the SW (GUI)?

For the PPK2 itself, there is no open source-code. We do have an unofficial Python API library available here. And the Power Profiler GUI is available here.
