This is quite common with LTE devices in general. Ask your network provider wrt. public IP solutions.

The GSM provider gives us static IP's which a server that is on their network should be able to access, but the NAT in the modem gets in the way.

Is there another possibility to configure your chip via UART, so that it looks like an ethernet interface in linux?
