Do you mean adding MQTT parameters to the Asset Tracker? This application is a demo application which is not suitable. I would recommend looking at the Simple MQTT sample.

Have you installed NCS via the Toolchain Manager?
->Yes.

[Nordic Thingy][Nordic kits] is checked.

Build Directory = C:/nRFconnectSDK/v1.4.2/nrf/applications/asset_tracker/build_thingy91_nrf9160ns

is displayed.

I am using the nRF connect SDK v1.4.2 and am editing the .conf file using a common text editor. The SES version is release 5.10d.

Can you please specify how the project destroys the value of the conf file? How are you editing the .conf file? What version of NCS are you using? What version of SES are you opening your project in? Please provide more elaborate information.
