noteworthy, i'm getting these same javascript errors on every browser I tried :

avatar/change, line 528 :  SyntaxError: expected expression, got ';'

then on 'upload failed' page:

avatar/add, line 109 : SyntaxError: expected expression, got';' 
util.js, line 3855   : ReferenceError: gettext is not defined
avatar/add, lines 141, 179, 194 : ReferenceError: askbot is not defined

9kB, tried with JPG and PNG formats. Could it be with ubuntu distribs ?

Worked fine for me in Firefox v38 on Windows 8.1. Are you uploading an extremely large (size-wize) image?

I'm using the Chrome browser in Windows 7. Not sure what makes the difference.

I see... on my side, I tried with firefox (v37.0 on Ubuntu 12.04 & 14.10), and chromium (v37.0 on Ubuntu 12.04), and when pressing Upload, I am blessed with an Internal server error.

I just uploaded an avatar in my profile and it seemed to work pretty well.
