I've been told that the nRFSniffer works as intended on a Mac running the Catalina OS, so there shouldn't be a problem with the nRFSniffer and Catalina OS.

Have you tried removing the nRFSniffer entirely from the computer and reinstalling it, as something might have gone wrong during the install the first time around. According to my colleagues the latest versions of Wireshark should work as well (Wireshark v3.4.4 for example).

Edvin is out of office, so I will be taking care of this case. We've gotten an update from one of our developers looking into this. They're running Big Sur on a Macbook Air, and had to run Wireshark from terminal using sudo ("sudo wireshark") to make it work as intended. Have you tried running the shellscript with sudo?

I have reported this internally to the team who works on the nRF Sniffer. I haven't received any replies yet, but I wanted to let you know that we are still looking into this.

In the meantime, have you tried this on another computer (Mac)? Just to check if this is only on that computer, or a general Mac OS Catalina issue.

Yeah Big Sur is causing other issues for our other tools, so I prefer not to update yet since we're not certain that it will fix this issue.

I'll have to run this by our sniffer team. I suppose updating the OS to the latest version (Big Sur) is not an option?

I just downloaded the latest and now it shows as follows. But it doesn't seem to help the Wireshark sniffing.

Can you please try to update the JLink driver from www.segger.com? What version are you currently on?

It's totally empty. See screenshot below.

I'm connecting the nRF52840-DK directly to my MAC and I have nothing else connected to the MAC.
I can use this DK on a PC and it works as expected, so I believe the DK has no issue. But I don't always have access to a PC, so I was hoping we can resolve it for MAC.

You are using a normal nRF52840 DK as the sniffer DK, right?

If you don't plug your custom PCB running the BLE software, but only keep the sniffer DK connected to your computer (try powering it off and on after programming it with the sniffer_nrf52840dk_nrf52840_7cc811f.hex), and then open wireshark. What does it look like after you select the nRF Sniffer (from your first screenshot) but before you hit the "stop button"?

Even though your device is not advertising, you should see a bunch of BLE packets. At least in a typical home environment, if you have a couple of phones in the nearby, some TVs, computers and so on. If you have a phone nearby, you can try to scan using nRF Connect for Android/iOS. You should see that there are some BLE devices nearby, so the nRF Sniffer should be able to see these as well. The reason I ask you to test is just to see that the other device is not messing up the USB interface.

Perhaps you can try to power your custom device from another computer/power supply?

If you are using a USB Hub, try connecting the DK used for the nRF Sniffer directly to your computer (without the USB hub).
