 We are using nRF52840 chip with S140 with ble_app_blinky example. 
 I was merging Serial DFU bootloader, SoftDevice, application and BLE settings with below commands. 
 
 
 Merge Bootloader and SoftDevice

&lt;p&gt;There is an unfortunate issue in the current version of mergehex (10.12.x) that can cause the generated output to have some addition bytes appended at the end of the FW image(s) and this cause the boot validation to fail. The recommended solution for now is to use version 10.11.x. We are working on getting a new release out with the fix. Sorry for the confusion.&lt;/p&gt;
