I need to upgrade an nRF52 device with SoftDevice 5.0.0 and bootloader.
I have to upgrade from SD 5.0.0 to 7.2.0.
I use this command to generate the zip file:
nrfutil pkg generate bootloader+SD7.zip --hw-version 52 --sd-req 0x9D --sd-id

RE: SoftDevice Upgrade OTA -DFU

Hi,
I have question about app after this update. Did you update app after sd+bl updating? New SD is bigger than old one so app start address can change. Am I right?

I check the start address of the new boolader and I find that was different from the old one. The new started from 0x78000 and the old from 0x75000 (I don't know why).
Anyway I recompiled the bootloader with new address, genereate the zip file (boot+SD7) and update from old SD5 to SD7.
Everything has gone well.

Thank you very much for you support!!!

RE: SoftDevice Upgrade OTA -DFU

Hi,

Can you double check that the start address of your old and new bootloader is the same? Have you done any debugging to see if the bootloader is started at all after the DFU? If not, can you do that (toggle a GPIO or something)?

RE: SoftDevice Upgrade OTA -DFU

Hi Einar,

thanks for your help.
When I program the device with secure_bootloader_ble_s132_custom.hex and SoftDevice 7.2.0 using nRFgo Studio everything works well. So I assume that the firmware is correct.
When I upgrade the device using OTA with zip package generated with nrfutil the upgrade process is ok but when the device restarts something goes wrong.

RE: SoftDevice Upgrade OTA -DFU

Hi Stevasway,

I assume the bootloader here (secure_bootloader_ble_s132_custom.hex) is built for the SoftDevice you are upgrading to, S132 7.2.0? If so this should work, but the application will be deleted in the process. So the device will enter DFU mode after reset, allowing you do DFU in an application. Is that what happens? If not, what happens when you write that "device doesn't restart correctly"?
