I also recreated the problem on the DK. I flashed the standard "mqttsn_sleepy_publisher" example on the DK. When I set THREAD_RADIO_MODE_RX_ON_WHEN_IDLE, everything works fine. But when I turn it off - finding a gateway seems not a problem. But connecting to it throws an error.

thanks a lot, that was the problem. Unfortunately, setting THREAD_RADIO_MODE_RX_OFF_WHEN_IDLE causes another problem with mqttsn. Pressing the dongle button once starts "mqttsn_client_search_gateway". No error. A second press should start "mqttsn_client_connect" but an error is thrown ("CONNECT message could not be sent."). Is the wakeup time to short? Or does it has to do with the dongle. Because the mqttsn_sleepy_publisher example is based on the DK.

Hi,

You have set the radio mode to RX on when idle:

.radio_mode             = THREAD_RADIO_MODE_RX_ON_WHEN_IDLE

Try setting radio mode to THREAD_RADIO_MODE_RX_OFF_WHEN_IDLE (*Sleeping End Device*).
