&lt;p&gt;For the nRF Connect for Desktop BLE app, there is a UUID definitions file describing the format of each type of characteristic. You access it from the cogwheel menu on the adapter, then &amp;quot;Open UUID definitions file&amp;quot;.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;There you can add, on the UART RX characteristic, the line &lt;code&gt;&amp;quot;format&amp;quot;: &amp;quot;TEXT&amp;quot;&lt;/code&gt;, similar to how it is already done on Manufacturer Name String.&lt;/p&gt;
