I'm not sure exactly what causes the problem, so it's difficult to say if this is what you're seeing. But it's worth a shot to try using a different USB port or rebooting the PC. At least you can eliminate one potential cause..

This issue is particularly easy to notice when actively developing on the dongle: unplugging->programing->replugging a lot. I ended up deleting relevant windows registry entries each time I unplugged the dongle to always trigger the driver install (the one you see running in the taskbar when plugging in a new device).

RE: [nRF51822] It is difficult to pair nRFready keyboard with 2.4G dongle.

Hi Audun
So, if user unplug and plug the dongle, the problem will show up unless reboot the PC?

RE: [nRF51822] It is difficult to pair nRFready keyboard with 2.4G dongle.

Hi,

we have also observed similar behavior with windows before. When removing and re-plugging the USB dongle into the same USB port, the keyboard/mouse doesn't appear to work properly. If a different USB port is used instead, or the PC is restarted, or the relevant entry from Device Manager is deleted prior to re-plugging, it works as normal.

Using a USB analyzer we have observed that both pairing and data transmission works fine after re-plugging the dongle, but windows seems to ignore the received data.

RE: [nRF51822] It is difficult to pair nRFready keyboard with 2.4G dongle.

Hi Håkon

Sorry for my late reply.
I see the same thing here. I've tested with two keyboards and both are very hard to pair up again after power cycling the dongle.

I will create an internal bug report on this matter.

Plug a 2.4G dongle into USB port (windows 7).

Press pairing button to start pair the keyboard with the dongle. (PS: The keyboard code was just programmed
on nRFGO)

2.4G pairing is sucessful. Keyboard works well.

Unplug 2.4G dongle from USB port. Wait 5 ~ 10 seconds.

Then, plug 2.4G dongle into the same USB port.

Press pairing button to try to connect the keyboard to the dongle.

I found it is very difficult to connect these two again. After trying several cycles to unplug and plug at the same USB port, the keyboard finally can work again. Is this a bug? Or can you explain what the reason is? Thanks.

I have not seen any issues when plugging the USB dongle into another PC.
What I have seen is that it may take up to 1 minute to get communication going, as windows will do a full USB enumeration (including check windows update for specific drivers) if this device has never been connected to that PC or that specific USB port.

What kind of a problem do you see? Do you have to pair up again, or is it similar to my observations?

Best regards

Pair Desktop 2 v1.0.5 keyboard with Desktop 2 v1.0.5 dongle
=> After just programming hex to dongle by nRFgo, it is easy to pair them.
However, I found it is very difficult to pair them after I unplug and plud the dongle to USB port. For this dongle
version, can it use the nRFreadySimplePairing?

Pair Desktop 2 v1.0.5 keyboard with Desktop 1.2.2.293 dongle
=> I have no idea how to use nRFreadySimplePairing.
What I did was as below. It still didn't work.

Open the nRFreadySimplePairing

Connect USB dongle

Power on keyboard or press pairing button.

Press any key on Desktop 2 v1.0.5 keyboard

Writing something to the blank area of nRFreadySimplePairing by Desktop 2 v1.0.5 keyboard. It can work...

After that, it shows "wait user approval" and then halted.

Anything is incorrect? Thanks.

RE: [nRF51822] It is difficult to pair nRFready keyboard with 2.4G dongle.

Hi Jeffery,

Are you holding the keyboard close to the dongle when pairing?
It uses close-proximity pairing (20 - 30 cm).

If you use the firmware provided by nRFready Desktop v1.2.2.293, then you will have to use the windows application "nRFreadySimplePairing" located in:
..\Nordic Semiconductor\nRFReady Desktop 1.2.2.293\applications
