You can have a look at the nRF9160: Modem Shell application as it demonstrates how to use the %RAI command. This is as well described in the application guide.

Yes. You have to customise your application since we do not have a single sample for every AT command supported by the modem.

Unfortunately, I can’t provide you with any .hex file more than the application firmware images that are officially released for the nRF9160 DK.

Thanks for the information. We are able to use %REL14FEAT and %RAI command n the 1.3.0 firmware. Do you perhaps have an application note/instructions on how to use and test this feature - more specifically how to give the release assistance information via a socket interface to the modem?

Will this requires writing application code? If so, we are currently having issues installing the SDK and SES, and will put time into fixing that when we are sure that we will use the nRF9160 (which at this stage is very likely based on what we are seeing from our testing), so we were provided with a hex file to test. Thus if it is needed to change application code, can you kindly provide the hex file so that we can test it?

The AT commands %REL14FEAT and %RAI are not supported with mfw 1.2.3, hence there will be an ERROR response with that release.

The old %XRAI command is only for Control Plane (data) RAI and control plane data is only supported in NB-IoT (whole industry, not just our product). In mfw1.3.0 %RAI will enable support for both CP RAI and AS RAI and then the application will need to give release assistance information via a socket interface to the modem.

Thanks Markus, we will test 1.3.0 in the meantime.

A bit of topic - I have also created a ticked here regarding max transmit power. It is apparently assigned to a support engineer, but haven't received a response yet. Would you be able to assist with this or check internally whether someone is one this?

We need to be sure that all the devices that we are testing are transmitting at the same power, otherwise we are not really comparing apples with apples.

Yes, modem firmware 1.3.0 is available now. But please be aware that this firmware version is not backwards compatible with firmware 1.2.3. or older versions.

I have contacted our modem team and await their response.

Modem firmware is mfw_nrf9160_1.2.3.

I believe this was the latest firmware that we downloaded a week or so ago - is there perhaps a newer firmware version to test in the meantime?

We are able to use the XRAI feature, however we see no difference in the join power profiles (In the below profile, XRAI=4 in the first join as XRAI=0 in the seconds join - 4 seconds inactivity timer still present in both):

With XRAI disabled, we then try to use the %RAI and %REL14FEAT commands with %XRAI set to 0. But as can be seen from the log, we are not able to even read these values.

Maybe we are using the XRAI feature complete wrong? When exactly should we send the XRAI command to the modem?
