flau, can you please register a new ticket with your issue. Please provide log output from when you are trying to connect to the AWS cloud.

Did you follow the troubleshooting steps provided in the link? Have you verified that the device ID you've entered is correct?

Hi,

I am still struggling with connecting to nRF Cloud with my custom board. I have created and downloaded a new certificate with Link Monitor. I didn't see any error during this process. I added the 2 CONFIG_NRF_CLOUD_CLIENT_ID lines into my prj.conf. I built and downloaded the gnss sample code onto my board. I got the follow errors:

<err> gnss_sample: Failed to get A_GPS data, error: -77

<err> gnss_sample: Failed to request assistance data

I tried to add my custome board to the nRF Cloud with my Device ID and PIN/HWID 123456 and I am still gettin "There was an error adding your device: No device found for this id. The device has not yet been provisioned. Troubleshoot nRF Code 40412".

This is most likely the last roadblock of my project. Any help is very much appreciated. Thank you.

Do the SIMs have a valid data amount?

Yes, I've created and downloaded a new certificates. But still can't add the device to the nRF Cloud. I have 2 SIM registered to the nRF Cloud. I tried both SIM, but no luck in adding a device. Not sure what I did wrong. I am about to give up on nRF Cloud and try something else.

Hi flau, have you added you created new certificates for the device ID using Device Management -> Provision Devices -> Create JITP Certificates(under cog dropdown menu)?

I downloaded and updated the certificate. AT%AMGN=1 showed the following.

Hi Floyd,

The device needs to run e.g. Asset Tracker v2 with the correct device ID and use the certificates you added (sec_tag), then follow the instructions provided in the link you pasted:

40412

No device found for this id. The device has not yet been provisioned.

The device cannot be found in the device registry, i.e., it is not 'known' by the IoT cloud platform. Possible reasons:

You entered the device id and/or ownership code (PIN or HWID) incorrectly.
Before attempting association, you did not wait for the LEDs to indicate the device was provisioned.
Corrupt modem firmware.
Corrupt, wrongly flashed, or illegitimate device certificates.
Poor LTE connection

Solutions that match the possible reasons are listed here. For items 2-4, refer to the nRF9160 DK Getting Started Guide or Thingy:91 Getting Started Guide.

Verify the values and try again. For Nordic Semiconductor products, please see the solution for nRF Code 40411, above.
Check the LED status indicators to ensure the device indicates it was provisioned.
(Re-)flash the latest modem firmware.
Flash new device certificates obtained from the CreateDeviceCertificate endpoint.
Move to a location with a better LTE connection.

The COM port issue is resolved. So I followed your instructures and downloaded the new certificate onto my board. I also added the 2 CONFIG_NRF_CLOUD_CLIENT_ID into the prj.conf. However, I couldn't add my device in the nrf Cloud. I kept getting "There was an error adding your device: No device found for this id. The device has not yet been provisioned. Troubleshoot nRF Code 40412". How can I resolve this? Thank you.

Hi,

I followed this case, generated and downloaded a new certificate for my custom board with an nRF9160. I tried to program the certificate to the module with the LTE Link Monitor. I could see and pick my board from the "Select device" menu. Unfortunately, I kept getting "Access denied" on the COM port? I wasn't able to connect my board with LTE Link Monitor. Any suggestion is much appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, there is. To connect to nRF Cloud we have some configurations options for the device ID. E.g. you can configure a specific prefix and use with the IMEI number, similar to nrf-<IMEI> valid for all nRF Devices.

I'm not aware of an expiration date on the certificates. By the way, in the FAQ section of nRF Cloud, I found an answer to:

Q10: How many devices can I connect to nRF Cloud?
You can connect an unlimited number of devices to nRFcloud, but you are limited to 1M messages.

Two follow up questions :
1. Since the device Id needs to included in proj.conf, how I do I manage that in production? If each device requires a unique Id is there a way to handle this for produciton programming?
2. The certificate that is downloaded, how often does that expire?

We have been having issues with getting Link Monitor to work on our custom board, it does not detect uart ports ("No device Available") so can't do anything with it.

Hello again,

I forgot to add that you also need to add the device name in the project as well.

For example, with the Asset Tracker application you add the Device ID by adding the following to the prj.conf:

CONFIG_NRF_CLOUD_CLIENT_ID_SRC_COMPILE_TIME=y
CONFIG_NRF_CLOUD_CLIENT_ID="<your-device-id>"

After compiling and programming this, you should use e.g. LTE Link Monitor - Certificate Manager to update the certificates with the certificates you downloaded.

Afterwards reset the device and follow the output in LTE Link Monitor to see that it connects, then go to nRF Cloud and add LTE Device.

Yes, there is. In nRF Cloud, there is a menu on the top right corner. Click on account. In there you can add a device:

Do not use nrf-IMEI number, as these are already added and specific for our DK and Thingy:91.

Click on Download Certificate to generate certificates for the device with that name.
