&lt;p&gt;When building the upgrade package (the zip file) you specify SoftDevice 0x0100, which is the s140 SoftDevice version 7.2.0, but the name of the hex file that you put into that package implies that you use the version of blinky built for not running with a SoftDevice.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Please ensure that you do have the specified SoftDevice on the device, and that the DFU package contains an application that is built for that SoftDevice.&lt;/p&gt;
