Hello Markus, thanks for sticking with this so far!

I just got a new SIM card from iBasis and starting from the point we left off the last time, I stuck the SIM card in and it... worked.

iBasis said that the card was deactivated because it was not used in a long time - my package indicates that it was made in 2020. Perhaps it would be useful to put a note in the Getting Started page so that people know to ask for a new iBasis SIM card.

I really appreciate your help.

I have tried to reproduce the behaviour you are experiencing, but I’m unfortunately not able to do so.

Your iBasis SIM card should work at your location and we have to figure out why the network is rejecting your device.

Maybe we should go one step backwards in the firmware version and check if that makes any difference.

Could you please update your Thingy:91 with the firmware in this package?

Please update both the application, modem and Connectivity bridge firmware.

Unfortunately it is still stuck. I have turned it on and off for a few times but it never progresses part the stage where it connects.

Is there any data I can capture for you?

Hello Markus, this is what I did, step by step.

1. I held down the small button near the nRF52 and turned on the device

2. I then flashed the image to the nRF52 (it is now loaded with the connectivity bridge, latest version). As you can see in the top left, it doesn't report Thingy91, so that's the nRF52 I am flashing to. It completed the flashing successfully

3. I turned off the Thingy91, held down the big central button and turned on the device.

4. Now you can see that I am flashing the ltem image to the nRF9160, as indicated by the Thingy91 in the device, v1 as you mentioned. This too was completed successfully

5. I then deleted my sim from the cloud, and reregistered it - Nordic Cloud responded with "Sim Activated Successfully"

6. At this point I should be waiting for the yellow light on the device to show that it is waiting for user association right?

If it helps in the LTE link monitor LTE is blinking yellow and red and UART is red. The white LED on the device just keeps flashing, it never turns blue or yellow.

As you can see, there is a network, just that my device is unable to connect to it.

Yes, considering you are updating the application firmware via USB/MCUboot that would be correct. And you have flashed this image to the nRF9160, right?

Could you even update the nRF52840 with the latest version of the Connectivity bridge?

That would be the image img_fota_dfu_hex/thingy91_nrf52_connectivity_bridge_2021-06-28_7a076c22.hex

Hello Marcus, if you see line 19 CFUN is set to 1.

Based on the information you sent I ran AT%XMONITOR which returned %XMONITOR: 2, which means that it is scanning and has not connected to the network yet.

Running AT+CEREG? returns +CEREG: 5,2 which means that it is attempting to registering but not registered to the network. So I'll never reach the +CEREG command you showed because my device is always stuck on this step

Yes, that is correct. The device can only be added to the nRF Cloud when it is connected to it and has reached the association point.

We might want to take a look at your connecting to the network, then. Could you please provide me with a full application log that shows the connection attempt to the network?

It doesn't reach Step 7. It never connects to the LTE network because it never reaches the step for user association - it just keeps blinking white.

I have registered the SIM on the nRF cloud. This was what I got when I tried to register the device on the nRF Cloud

When you have reached point 7, you manually have to add your Thingy:91 as a LTE device to the nRF Cloud. Have you done that?

Thank you for your help. I have flashed the at_client, updated the cloud certificates, flashed the asset tracker v1, and inserted my sim.

However, the device just keeps flashing white, which means that it is just connecting to the network. So far I've not seen it turn yellow on the asset tracker v1.

Hello,

Please follow this guideline to program application firmware image to your Thingy:91 using the MCUBoot.

Please note: The Asset Tracker application image is supposed to be downloaded to the nRF9160 SiP and not the nRF52840! For the nRF52840, please use the image:

thingy91_nrf52_connectivity_bridge_2021-06-28_7a076c22.hex

The Connectivity bridge will ensure the terminal functionality between the Thingy:91 and your computer.

Regarding the connection to the nRF Cloud:

You have to ensure you have downloaded and provisioned the cloud certificates to your Thingy:91. Please use the AT client firmware image thingy91_at_client_2021-06-28_7a076c22.hex when downloading the certificates to the modem.
I would recommend use the Asset Tracker v1 to add your Thingy:91 to the nRF Cloud.
Please make sure that the device is in the state described in point 7 of the Testing chapter, before you add your device to the nRF Cloud.
After adding your Thingy:91 to the nRF Cloud successfully, you can proceed with the Asset Tracker v2.

Okay I manged to fix it. I realised that I shouldn't be resetting the nRF52 and flashing the firmware to it.

However, I ran into another issue. I used the v2 of the ltem asset tracker hex and so far it alternates between blinking blue and purple and I am still unable to register my device on the nRF Cloud. As far as I can tell no data has been uploaded to the cloud.

I checked and CAT-M1 is available nationwide in my country.
