I had the exact same issue with v5.00. I've seen it before that they branch out beta's with a weird version numbering. v5.01a could actually be based on an older build than v5.00d.

Awesome, this worked. Yes, the 5.0.1 was beta (as is the devkit ;-)) and I didn't expect newer beta having less supported chips than previous release. 5.0.0d works for me, programs the chip as expected!

Where's 5.01d? The latest I can find is 5.00d for production and 5.01a in beta (which is what the original poster is using).

Could you try using v5.00d and see if it recognizes "device nrf52" ?

What command line are you using to run JLink? You'll need

JLink -device nrf52 -if swd

That doesn't actually work for me as I don't have my board yet (thanks Mouser) but it does recognise it at least.

ExpDevList for me has this line in it to

"Nordic Semi", "nRF52", "Cortex-M4", { {0x00000000, 0x00080000}, {0x10001000, 0x00001000} }, {0x20000000, 0x00010000}
