So, I know about WinPcap and I know why you need to install it.
WinPcap is a program that allows a network card in a hybrid mode.
However, it can also be called a 'potentially unwanted program', and should be removed if you did not install it yourself. WinPcap has been discussed in some computer security forums, and it seems that the main reason users consider it a virus is its distribution method.
Like other similar programs, it is distributed with freeware and shareware.
This is a widely used way to force a user to download applications to a computer without his knowledge.

You are right, i just want to use wireshark to sniff the communication, i think i can do it without WinPCap, will test it when i get the DK, thanks for the help.

Hi Carlos,

If you need to get started with development and plan to release a product very soon I would recommend the nRF51 DK, as the 51 is a more mature platform currently. If you need some of the features of the 52, or would like more processing power with lower energy consumption go for the 52.

As for Wireshark, WinPCap is a dependency, see Wiresharks own pages for a description of WinPCap. WinPCap is used to capture packages, this can be used by several tools that require this feature, that includes malicious software. Whether this is a security issue or not is probably a hot topic, as nearly all software you install on your computer can be malicious if utilized the right(wrong?) way. Basically it's your choice, however you do not need Wireshark to develop with Nordic products.
