It seems like the wrong J-Link firmware has been bundled with the M1 installer indeed. I have reported this internally and we'll hopefully fix it soon. In the meantime you'll have to download the M1 version from SEGGER's pages indeed. Thank you for notifying us of this.

I specifically clicked on the M1 version in the installer. Is the intention that we are supposed to go directly to sagger's site and download their j-link M1 driver as Yanc did?

It seems the j-Link Arm M1 version bundled with nRF Command Line Tools is still intel version. I re-installed Arm m1 version from segger's site and it works again.

Have you perhaps installed the J-Link libraries for Intel x86 on your Macbook? If so, you'll need to update these to the Arm M1 version.
