Hi,

Replying here to myself for the detailled solution :

SW4 + Power + img_fota_dfu_hex\thingy91_nrf52_connectivity_bridge_2021-06-28_7a076c22.hex

then

SW3 + Power + mfw_nrf9160_1.3.0.zip

then

SW3 + Power + img_fota_dfu_hex\thingy91_at_client_2021-06-28_7a076c22.hex

With this I ended up with the modem FW 1.3.0 and AT capable device, but with no Asset Tracker.

Testing was much more fluid for my needs.

I'm good now, in ded I needed to re-programm again after the modem FW flash.

What application are you running on the device? Did you reprogram the Asset Tracker application after updating the modem?

This sounds correct as the USB is handled by the nRF53840, running connectivity bridge. The Asset Tracker controls the LED. Once you have program the modem FW, it will erase the application memory of the nRF9160, which means you need to reprogram the Asset Tacker.

Hi Oyvind,

Took me some time to dive back into this.

After the successful firmware flashing from last time, I can now connect my device correctly to LTE Link Monitor, but the device doesn't seem to answer to any AT commands sent.

The USB drive is mounted, but there are no LED lighting up when starting the device.

So either the firmware wasn't correctly flashed, or I missed a step ! Any idea ?

Ok I just now managed to flash the firmware as suggested :

SW4 + Power + img_fota_dfu_hex\thingy91_nrf52_connectivity_bridge_2021-06-28_7a076c22.hex

then

SW3 + Power + mfw_nrf9160_1.3.0.zip

I think J-link was not installed at all... after executing the .exe the nrfjprog --version command properly showed the installed versions.

Launching the flash procedure was successful.

I will have tou double check that the Asset Tracker is correctly disabled.

I can only find this information (I'm on Windows10 the command you provided doesn't return anything) :

nrfjprog library 10.12.1, pc-nrfjprog-js 1.7.6

JLink_Windows_V688a.exe

Regarding the Thingy-91 itself, I have :

PCA20035

1.4.0

2020.22

Hi Mathieu,

Can you please provide what version of nrfjprog and Jlink drivers you are using? Just open your command prompts and type in nrfjprog --version. Also, what version of the Thingy:91 are you using (label on the Thingy:91 itself)?

Thanks for the reply.

It seems however I still cannot flash my device in any way !

When I first opened this thread, I had been using thingy91_fw_2021-03-04_8e8c6089.zip and mfw_nrf9160_1.3.0.zip

I have retried this past week with the latest thingy91_fw_2021-06-28_7a076c22.zip, trying to flash img_fota_dfu_hex\thingy91_nrf52_connectivity_bridge_2021-06-28_7a076c22.hex using the SW4 + Power Button. But each time I try to write the .hex file onto the modem I get the same error :

Then the device restarts in normal mode.

Are there some other pre-requisite to flashing that I am missing ?

The SWD Selection switch (SW2) is set to nRF91, which I believe is the default/correct one for this.

I can't really think of anything else...

What .zip file did you try? SW4 + Power Button will enable the nRF52840 recovery mode. This device is what enables USB communication with you computer. Can you please download latest Precompiled FW package from the Thingy:91 download tab. In this package please program the img_fota_dfu_hex\thingy91_nrf52_connectivity_bridge_2021-06-28_7a076c22.hex

Once this is completed, please update the modem by setting nRF9160 in recovery mode, by holding SW3 and powering ON. In recovery mode, updating the modem will erase the whole application flash. After updating the modem successfully, you can program the Asset Tracker by enabling nRF9160 recovery mode again.

Let me know how that works for you.
