&lt;p&gt;I see. As long as you flash the MBR hex together with the application from the programmer app, then this should be equivalent and the flash content should be exactly the same and it should work the same.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This error states that the serial port cannot be opened. This could for instance be because of an issue on your PC, or that the firmware running on the nRF did not enable the USB properly (like an issue with the USB bootloader not started).&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This is peculiar, as a simple read does not change the flash content at al.&amp;nbsp; Could it be that nRF Connect Programmer was holding the USB serial port? What happens if you close it (or even reboot the computer) and try again? &lt;p&gt;It seems like you are missing the SoftDevice. If you flash an example project that depend on the SoftDevice from SES, that will also flash the SoftDevice, as it is an additional load file. See here:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;first its was not jumping to application so we generated bootloader settings then its start our application and it is working but few of functionality are not working and the strange thing is that if we run our application without MBR then every thing is working fine.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Now I spotted an issue with your application which I overlooked before. You have set FLASH_START to 0, but the MBR resides on address 0. The start address of your application must be 0x1000. This must clearly be fixed. There may be other issues as well though, as&amp;nbsp;I do not immediately see that you would get an insufficient resources error because of this. But please fix this and test again first. &lt;p&gt;In&amp;nbsp;&lt;span&gt;SDK 17.1.0.,&amp;nbsp;I am trying to build a bootloader based on the&amp;nbsp;&lt;strong&gt;secure_bootloader_usb_mbr_pca10100e&amp;nbsp;&lt;/strong&gt;because it already has the crypto needed (when migrating from a 10056 example we had to do this manually).&lt;strong&gt;&amp;nbsp;&lt;/strong&gt;I had to download and build uECC. I could flash the bootloader first development kit its worked.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;This is not exactly right. You still&amp;nbsp;need nrf_crypto as this is used by the bootloader to validate upgrade images, so&amp;nbsp;NRF_CRYPTO_ENABLED must be 1. However, you need to disable the CC310 BL backend which is used by the bootloader projects for nRF52840, so set&amp;nbsp;NRF_CRYPTO_BACKEND_CC310_BL_ENABLED to 0 in sdk_config.h. Now, you need to enable other backends. I suggest you refer to an example bootloader project for any non-nRF52840 device. There you can see that you need to set&amp;nbsp;NRF_CRYPTO_BACKEND_MICRO_ECC_ENABLED to 1 and&amp;nbsp;NRF_CRYPTO_BACKEND_MICRO_ECC_ECC_SECP256R1_ENABLED to 1. You also need to set&amp;nbsp;NRF_CRYPTO_BACKEND_NRF_SW_ENABLED to 1 and&amp;nbsp;NRF_CRYPTO_BACKEND_NRF_SW_HASH_SHA256_ENABLED to 1.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;That is because you disabled nrf_crypto in sdk_config.h, and that way these functions that yuo rely on are removed by the preprocessor. This should be&amp;nbsp;OK after&amp;nbsp;you fix your sdk_config.h as described.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;We need to look at your memory layout in order to understand this. Perhaps the bootloader start address is wrong and overlaps with the SoftDevice? Which start address have you specified for the bootloader?&lt;/p&gt;
