Øyvind, it seems this was an isolated issue on my computer that came from some corrupt(?) Python installation.

I've since fixed it & everything is working now.

Hi Øyvind,
Sorry for the late response.

I have deleted the version of ncs in Documents.

When running via a prompt the same error occurs (git bash).

One thing to note: my command prompt seems to be broken. It won't open from System32/cmd.exe so I'll try fix this and then get back to you with results

Matt, can you please try building the blinky sample in same path as NCS.

In your command prompt, go to blinky folder:
cd c:\ncs\v1.7.1\zephyr\samples\basic\blinky and then run the following:

west build -b actinius_icarus_ns -d build

The previous comment had the path c:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\ncs\v1.7.1\, is this still on your computer? If so, please delete any other NCS folders to narrow down to one path.

I've discussed the issue internally based on the information you have provided.

In order for us to find the root cause of this, you will need to add some extra print statements in the zephyr\cmake\extensions.cmake file. Based on what version of nRF Connect SDK you are working on, the line numbers differ, but the following git diff should give you an indication. The plus (+) indicates what and where you need to add.

If exists = 1, this indicates that zephyr/.cache is not deleted. Until we have found the issue, this will need to be deleted before every build.

From keystring you should have -Wl,--unresolved-symbols=ignore-in-object-files which we expect to prevent this error: exit.c:(.text.exit+0x2c): undefined reference to `_exit'

Incase this isn't solved and someone comes across this, this is my current (janky) workaround.

I've installed an SDK version manually in WSL with the tutorial here: https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/gs_installing.html#

Then, open VSCode from wsl using

code .

Then build the project manually using west:

west build --build-dir PROJECTFOLDER/build  PROJECTFOLDER --pristine --board BOARDNAME -- -DCMAKE_EXPORT_COMPILE_COMMANDS:BOOL=On -DNCS_TOOLCHAIN_VERSION:STRING="NONE" -DCONF_FILE:STRING="PROJECTFOLDER/prj.conf"

Personal computer, the only antivirus would be windows defender.

Steps I've taken:

- Pause 'Real-time protection' in windows security.
- Opened nRFConnect as Administrator
- Installed nRFConnect SDK v1.7.1 from the toolchain manager
- Select the correct toolchain + SDK in vscode (opened from toolchain manager)
- Create hello world application from sample
- Create build config + run

Same error occurs unfortunately

nRF Connect v3.7.1
Toolchain manager: 0.10.0

I'm opening vscode from the toolchain manager and I do get the same error when building from west.

I've hidden some things from the output but this is what it produces

Weirdly, and I don't know if this is related. In the output tab in VSCode (terminal pane) under C/C++ Configuration warnings this error is present:

[9/11/2021, 2:13:04 pm] Unable to resolve configuration with compilerPath "c:\ncs\v1.6.0\zephyr\samples\basic\blinky\${nrf-connect.toolchain:1.7.0}\opt\bin\arm-none-eabi-gcc.exe".  Using "cl.exe" instead.

I'm not able to reproduce on my side, building zephyr\samples\basic\blinky for actinius_icarus_ns. What version of Windows, VS Code extension, and Toolchain Manager are you running? Do you get the same when building with west in command line? Are you opening VS code from the Toolchain Manager?

In VS Code please run the "nRF Connect: Generate support information" command (Ctrl + Shift + P).

Hello,

Looking at the log output you have attached, the path of nRF Connect SDK (NCS) is fairly long. How long is the username? Please try moving the NCS folder to e.g. C:\NCS\v1.6.0
